چکیده

Abnormalities in the serum proteins have been described in several disorders of thyroid function (Man et al., 1940; Lewis and McCullagh, 1944; Lamberg and Grasbeck, 1955) and in particular in auto-immune thyroiditis, where a raised serum y-globulin has been found (Fromm et al., 1953; Luxton and Cooke, 1956; Skillern et al., 1956; Doniach and Hudson, 1957; Greene et al., 1958; Roitt et al., 1958 ; Hetz et al., 1959; Shulman et al., 1960). The diagnostic significance of these changes is difficult to evaluate because in most studies the number of patients has been small. Furthermore, the control series of normal subjects and of patients with other forms of thyroid disease has been inadequate for statistical evaluation. In this paper we report a detailed study of the serum protein abnormalities in 182 patients with different thyroid disorders and compare them with those found in 26 normal controls. In addition the diagnostic value of the serum flocculation tests and the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (E.S.R.) has been studied, since both have been suggested as diagnostic aids in auto-immune thyroiditis (Luxton and Cooke, 1956; Doniach and Hudson, 1957; Hubble, 1959).

BINDING OF NAPROXEN TO SERUM PROTEINS IN PATIENTS WITH LIVER CIRRHOSIS AND HEALTHY INDIVIDUALS

A three-fold decrease of the in vitro ability of serum proteins to bind naproxen was shown in patients with cirrhosis of the liver compared to healthy individuals. This decrease was caused by quantitative changes in serum proteins in the sera of patients with liver damage. Lower doses of naproxen are therefore suggested in the treatment of patients with liver dysfunction.

Characteristics of Potential Protein Biomarkers Extracted with 10% TCA from Blood Serum of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and Multiple Myeloma Patients

Blood serum has been extensively explored as a source of the bio-markers [1, 2].  For concentration of minor protein(s) and depletion of abundant blood serum proteins a 2,2,2-trichloroacetic acid (TCA) precipitation procedure is frequently applied [3]. However, a significant amount of proteins may be present in the TCA extracts, and these proteins are often not studied.Recently, we have sh...

Some serum acute phase proteins and immunoglobulins concentrations in calves with rotavirus, coronavirus, E. coli F5 and Eimeria species

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the changes in the serum concentrations of haptoglobin (Hp), serum amyloid A (SAA) and IgG, IgA in calves with diarrhea caused by rotavirus, coronavirus, Escherichia coli F5 and Eimeria species. The experiment was carried out on 40 diarrhoeic and 10 non-diarrhoeic calves (group C). A total of 13 calves were infected with rotavirus or coronavirus (group ...

Comparative in silico analyses of proteins involved in serum resistance as promising vaccine candidates against Acinetobacter baumannii

Introduction: Acinetobacter baumannii as a Gram-negative coccobacillus has become a major cause of hospital-acquired infections. The virulence factors involved in serum resistance are important targets in the development of an effective vaccine against this pathogen. Our aim in this project was in silico analyses of A. baumannii proteins involved in serum resistance which could potentially be u...
